Prayer and Worship

Year of the Prayer

In preparation for the 2025 Jubilee Year “Pilgrims of Hope”, 2024 has been designated a Year of Prayer by Pope Francis. He asks us all to join in a great “symphony” of prayer, “to renew our desire to be in the presence of the Lord, to listen to him and to adore him.”

The Lord’s Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer offers us a great opportunity to go back to the basics of prayer.

Our Father,

Who art in Heaven,

hallowed be Thy name;

Thy Kingdom come,

Thy will be done

on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

The Year of the Prayer

The Year of Prayer focus for the month of February is Grace Before Meals.

We have been writing our own prayers to say before lunch each day.

The Year of Prayer focus for the month of March is the Magnificat – the song of Mary sung after the Annunciation. Children will bring home a prayer card with their own copy of the Magnificat to pray with at home.

Our Year of Prayer focus for April is the Apostles Creed.

Children will bring home their own prayer cards.

The Year of the Prayer focus for the Month of May is Hail Mary.

In May we honour Mary, Mother of God.

Children will bring home their own prayer card of the Hail Mary today, we are reminded to imitate our Blessed Mother’s virtue in our own lives.
